What is a root canal?
A root canal is meant to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal and save the natural tooth. When a tooth is badly infected, its pulp can become inflamed or infected as well. Tooth pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue that helps your teeth grow during development.
A root canal may be needed after a cavity remains untreated for a long time, to treat a cracked tooth, or to resolve issues from a previous filling. This treatment is highly effective and has saved millions of diseased or damaged teeth each year.
How do I know if I need a root canal?

The root canal procedure
Many patients are worried about having a root canal done because they’re afraid that it will hurt. You can rest assured our team will take excellent care of every patient. We offer a variety of anesthesia options and sedation dentistry to ensure maximum comfort.
We can administer the selected form of anesthesia. If you are undergoing general anesthesia, please follow the detailed instructions prior to treatment. He will use a very small drill to access the inside of the tooth, then use files to clear away the damaged and diseased pulp. The inner chamber of the tooth will be reshaped and often flushed with water to wash away any remaining pulp. We may use an antimicrobial solution to kill any remaining bacteria and reduce the risk of further infection.
Once the tooth’s chamber is clean and dried, your doctor, in North Las Vegas, NV, will fill it with a rubber-like material. The tooth opening will be closed with a temporary filling while you wait for your permanent crown.
A few weeks later, your permanent crown will be placed on top of the tooth. Specifics of your treatment may vary depending on the number of infected teeth and the severity of the damage.
It’s important to remember that proper oral care is essential to preventing cavities and root canals, as well as maintaining regular check-ups and professional cleanings. Visit our at-home care and cavities pages to learn more about taking care of your oral health.
